The Police High Command says several gangs whose bosses are based in the United Kingdom and have links to transnational crime are responsible for the flare up of violence in West Kingston and other sections of the Corporate Area.

9 persons have been gunned down in the Kingston Western Police Division in the past two weeks. On Tuesday of this week a 2-year old boy was also shot and killed in Central Kingston.

The Police today had a media briefing at their Area 4 Headquarters in response to the violence.

Assistant Commissioner in charge of the Area 4 Division, Terrence Bent, says several gangs across the Corporate Area have been fueling the latest round of bloodshed.

ACP Bent says some of the gangs behind the violence have links overseas.

ACP Bent says other dons based in the United Kingdom have also made moves to take charge of some inner city communities in Jamaica.

According to ACP Bent, thugs have erected British flags in some communities in Jamaica in order to indicate their allegiance to the UK based don.
