Tufton To Convene High Level Meeting To Address Complaints Of Sexual Harassment In Public Hospitals

Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, says he’s ordered a high level meeting with ministry officials to address complaints of sexual harassment in public hospitals.

Dr. Tufton’s action come after the Jamaica Observer newspaper reported this week that junior doctors in hospitals across the country are being sexually harassed by their senior colleagues.

The doctors say they don’t report the harassment for fear of being victimized by the senior doctors.

Dr. Tufton says there are concerns that junior doctors are fearful of reporting harassment.

He says there’ve been only three formal reports of harassment over the last year.

Dr. Tufton says he hopes the Sexual Harassment Bill recently tabled in parliament will tackle the issue of victims being silenced.
