The United States is standing by a statement from one of its Generals that Jamaicans have travelled to Syria to fight with Islamic State militants.
The Minister of National Security, Peter Bunting, has dismissed General John Kelly’s statement, saying Jamaica had no evidence that its nationals had travelled to join terrorist groups.
According to Mr Bunting, the prepared text of the speech delivered by General Kelly did not name Jamaica.
But a spokesman for the US Southern Command in Florida, Jose Ruiz, tells Nationwide News that General Kelly did not make a mistake.
