UHWI Giving Free Access to Children Under 12 with Dengue Symptoms

Children ages 12 and under can now access free health services for dengue at the University Hospital of the West Indies, UHWI.

In a statement last evening, the Ministry of Health says they’ve taken the decision due to the growing number of persons who suspect they have dengue, visiting public hospitals. The Ministry says the free service will be available until further notice.

The Ministry says there’s a growing number of visits to the Accident & Emergency Units at public hospitals for suspected gastroenteritis and flu-like or upper respiratory illnesses.

Children 12 and under will be able to access free assessments and treatment for these specific illnesses at the UHWI.

The Ministry is also reminding the public that health centres in several parishes are offering extended hours.

The Ministry says it’s working to ensure the timely delivery of health care.
