The British High Commissioner to Jamaica, Asif Ahmad, says the United Kingdom, UK, will continue to ensure that Jamaica has access to finance as the threat of de-risking looms over the region.
The assurance was given on Friday during his address to the Jamaica Going Global Symposium at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort in St James.
The term “De-risking” refers to financial institutions closing the accounts of clients perceived as a high risk for money laundering or terrorist financing abuse.
Mr Ahmad also made it clear that the UK will continue to support and not abandon Jamaica as the country continues to make progress.
Mr Ahmad says that as a means of dealing with de-risking, he would like to see more full-service Jamaican banks being established in the UK.
