US Researchers Developing Jamaican Cannabis-based Medication

New York based Research Company, Citiva is moving towards creating cannabis medication that meets optimum standards in Jamaica.

The company announced the donation of the first cannabis-based medicine intended to help fight epilepsy last week.

Also involved in the research is Epican, a Jamaican company which has been partnering with the Scientific Research Council to extract the cannabis plant for medicinal purposes.

Mr. Volman says cannabis has properties that can treat epilepsy and diabetes. He says the research will focus primarily on the safety of the medications.

Mr. Volman says once people see the benefits of the medication there will be serious implication for government policies and how the drug is regulated.
