UTech Students Complain of Excessive Hazing Practices

A number of students living on hall at the University of Technology (UTECH) are allegedly being attacked in their sleep.

A first-year student who spoke with Nationwide News claims the incident has been going on for months. Kavaun Birthfield has been living on the Donald Farquharson hall since August 19.

The 24-year-old who is majoring in Business Administration is describing being fatigue and uncomfortable under his new living arrangements on the all-boys dorm.

According to Mr. Birthfield, this incident occurred sometime after 4:00 this morning. Another incident was hours before, at about 10:00.

Birthfield says this time his friend was attacked.

The 24-year-old says this is beyond what’s called ‘ragging’ or ‘grubbing’ at the tertiary level.

Ragging during University orientation often time includes seniors commanding new students to do certain actions.

Mr. Birthfield says he’s now losing sleep and is frustrated.

The first year student says he’s thinking of getting a transfer.

Ms. Ferguson who thanked Nationwide for bringing the matter to their attention is citing as abuse, the treatment being meted out to a number of the students on the hall.

Once again a news house fails to publish the full story. Just taking one side of the argument and running with it and painting a negative image of a group of individuals because of one rotten apple….. Good job and continue the good work
