UWI Students Perish in Crash

The Mona campus of the University of the West Indies, has again been plunged into mourning, after two of its students died last evening in a tragic car accident.

The students have been identified as 22-year-old O’Shane Reid of Bird Street, Kingston and 22-year-old Shanice Simmonds of Harmony Hall, St. Mary.

Reports from the St. Ann’s Bay Police are that about 8:20pm, Simmonds was driving a Toyota motor car along the Drax Hall main road in St. Ann when she collided with a coaster bus travelling in the opposite direction.

It’s understood that Simmonds was thrown from the vehicle, due to the impact of the crash.

The two students were pronounced dead at hospital.

O’Shane Reid was a Masters student at the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communications.

His friend, Davion Smith, told our news centre that O’Shane was a great leader.

Shanice was a student in the Faculty of Humanities and Education.

She was expected to graduate in October with a bachelor’s degree.

Her friend Rubian Mitchell says Shanice was a promising woman.
