Political campaigning in the looming by-election in South East St. Mary is intensifying.
This, as more signs are emerging that Prime Minister Holness is set to call the by-election soon.
A Cabinet Minister, Daryl Vaz, is urging constituents to remember that the Holness-administration’s one-seat majority means it’s crucial that they turn out and deliver South East St. Mary to the JLP.
Mr. Vaz addressed a South East St. Mary workers meeting he convened in Buff Bay in Portland last night. He slammed Opposition Leader and PNP President, Dr. Peter Phillips.
He also told Labourites that a South East St. Mary JLP win is crucial because the administration’s one seat majority is not the most comfortable situation in which to govern.
The South East St. Mary seat became vacant a few weeks ago when the sitting MP, the PNP’s Dr. Winston Green, died suddenly.
Hours before Dr. Green died, Dr. Phillips addressed a PNP meeting and told comrades they should get ready because sickness, prison or insanity could force the calling of General Elections.
Vaz last night accused Phillips of desperation.
Mr. Vaz dismissed Dr. Phillips’ apology. He argued that a JLP win in South East St. Mary is likely to have consequences for the PNP President.
