The Health Ministry says there’s been an increase in the number of cases of viral illness over the Christmas Period at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.
The Ministry says this includes suspected cases of Dengue. In a statement this afternoon, the Ministry says there’s also been an increase in the number of severe dengue cases.
The Ministry is urging the public to take precautions by reducing mosquito breeding sites in and around their homes and communities.
It’s also suggesting the wearing of long sleeve clothing, especially at dusk and dawn when mosquitos are more likely to be around. It’s also encouraging the frequent use of mosquito netting and mosquito repellants.
The Ministry of Health says many cases of dengue are mild. But, if individuals suffer from belly pain, vomiting, weakness, bleeding or other severe or persistent symptoms, they are to seek medical advice.
