Former West Indies cricketer Wavell Hinds has been selected as the new standard bearer for the PNP in the Hanover Eastern constituency.
Hinds was unanimously selected on Sunday during a constituency conference at the Hopewell High School in the parish.
During the conference, one regional representative, two National Executive Council representatives and seven constituency executive members were also selected.
The previous standard-bearer, Dr. DK Duncan made the announcement in a resolution to the hierarchy of the party. He says taking into consideration the party’s upcoming 80th annual conference, Hinds should be named at the earliest possible time as the official candidate for Hanover Eastern.
Hinds highlighted a number of issues in the constituency that need attention.
The 42-year-old also pointed to the importance of the constituency working together in unity and partnership in order to win the seat in the general election due in 2021.
The sitting Member of Parliament is Dave Brown of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party.
Brown had won the seat in the 2016 general election by 334 votes over the PNP’s former Mayor of Lucea, Wynter McIntosh.
He had briefly taken over as the representative for the PNP from Dr Duncan who served as two time MP between 2007 and 2016 after emerging out of retirement.
