Wheatley to Update on Bid to Buy Back Venezuela’s Stake in PetroJam


Energy Minister, Dr. Andrew Wheatley, is to update the House of Representatives today on Jamaica’s efforts to buy back Venezuela’s 49 percent stake in Petrojam.

A statement from Gordon House says the Energy Minister will provide details on how the negotiations have progressed.

Gordon House says Mining Minister, Robert Montague, is to also give a statement to parliament.

Minister Montague is to speak on the impact of US sanctions on several Russian companies, including UC Rusal.

Rusal are the owners and operators of the Windalco Bauxite Plant in Ewarton, St. Catherine.

Windalco employs approximately 6-hundred Jamaicans.

Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, is to also deliver a statement to the House on the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

Meantime .. the Sectoral debate is also to begin in the House with presentations from Industry Minister, Audley Shaw and Opposition Spokesman on Energy, Phillip Paulwell.
