The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) aspirant for East Portland, Ann-Marie Vaz, has issued a strident response to comments from her PNP opponent, Damion Crawford, that she’ll never be anything more than Mrs. Vaz.
Crawford has been roundly criticised for the comments, which have been described as sexist, as well as other comments which critics say are classist and racist.
On the campaign trail yesterday, Mrs. Vaz says women are just as capable as men.
Mrs. Vaz was speaking to a crowd of predominantly women. She assured the JLP supporters that their gender is no barrier to their progress.
Mrs. Vaz told the supporters that she’s aiming to improve infrastructure and tackle poverty.
Ann-Marie Vaz was speaking yesterday on the campaign trail in Cornwall Barracks, Rio Grande, in East Portland.
