A three-year-old boy who was reportedly given poison by his mother is still in critical condition at the Annotto Bay Hospital in St. Mary.

The woman, who also ingested the substance, died over the weekend in the parish. She is 29-year-old Racquel Sommerville of Orangefield, Castleton. It’s believed she may have consumed some form of weedicide.

Head of the St. Mary Police, Superintendent Bobette Morgan says preliminary reports say Sommerville had called the father of her child earlier and told him she felt like killing herself.
