Forty one suspected lottery scammers have been arrested following a joint police military operation led by the Lottery Scam Task Force in Western Jamaica.

The operation which took place between Monday and Tuesday, saw 15 of those arrested, being charged for breaching the Law Reform Special Provisions Act.

The operation, led by the Lottery Scam Task Force, was assisted by the Police Street Crime Units, the Fugitive Apprehension and the Proactive Investigation Teams and the Jamaica Defence Force.

It started on Monday with a series of simultaneous raids being carried out in several communities in Westmoreland.

Media and Communication Liaison Officer for the Scam Task Force, Corporal Kevin Watson says in that operation alone, 22 persons were taken into custody.

Corporal Watson says on Tuesday several raids in Trelawny led to the arrest of 19 persons.

Coporal Watson says the operations stemmed from an incident last Friday, where an 85 year old American woman was detained at the Sangster International Airport with a large sum of cash.
