Jamaica’s 5-member team is in Panama for the six day Pan American Championships which started on Sunday.
Team Jamaica will bow into action on Wednesday.
The team consists of three open shortboard men, team captain Elishama Beckford, Ackeam Phillips and Ronald Hastings, and two open shortboard women, team manager Imani Wilmot and Zoe Bain.
Wilmot says they are ready for competition.
Wilmot says the team will will not be able to participate in the stand up paddle surf male and female, stand up paddle race male and female and long board male and female categories.
In all, 17 countries from across the region have registered to compete.
Jamaica’s partial team enters the event at the bottom of the regional rankings which makes it a tougher job for the country’s athletes to advance through the heats when facing the top ranked teams at the event in the early elimination rounds.
Wilmot says the top finishing eligible male and female surfer at the championships will earn automatic places in the surfing finals of the 2024 Olympic Games being held in the French Island of Tahiti in the south Pacific.
Imani Wilmot.
