The Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, says it has seized 99 illegal guns in St. James since the start of the year.

The latest figure comes following Tuesday’s seizure of two high-powered rifles in Salt Spring.

Twenty-one assorted rounds of ammunition were also seized.

The latest seizure occurred after the Montego Bay Police conducted an operation in the Perry Street area Wednesday afternoon.

They seized one point-4-0 Smith and Wesson pistol with a magazine containing one round of ammunition.

Two suspects were also apprehended in connection with the seizure.

The 99 firearms seized so far in St. James is 32 less than the 1-hundred and 31 illegal guns taken in the parish during the corresponding period last year.

The JCF says it has ramped up its intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with the Jamaica Defence Force geared towards crime reduction across the Western division.
