High patient volume is affecting the speed of service delivery at the University Hospital of the West Indies, UHWI.
The hospital issued the advisory on Thursday.
It says patients may experience longer than usual waiting times at its facility due to a significant increase in persons presenting to and being admitted through its emergency services.
UHWI says patients will be prioritised based on the severity of their condition.
It notes that those assessed as most critically ill will receive immediate attention over patients with less urgent medical conditions.
UHWI says its medical nursing and support teams are working to ensure that all patients are attended to in a safe and efficient manner.
The hospital is urging persons seeking medical attention to be patient and understanding during this period.
UHWI is also encouraging persons with non-emergency conditions to consider accessing their nearest health centre or primary care provider.
