The extradition hearing of Muslim Cleric Sheikh Abdullah el-Faisal continues in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish court in Half Way Tree today.

The hearing is to determine whether el-Faisal is to be sent to the United States to stand trial for terrorism-related charges.

In August 2017, the controversial Muslim cleric was arrested on a provisional warrant under the Mutual Legal Assistant Treaty after he was accused by US Authorities of engaging in terrorism-related activities.

The US says they have evidence that el-Faisal, used various social media websites to recruit persons around the world, including undercover police officers in New York, to join the militant group ISIS.

El-Faisal’s attorney, Bert Samuels, confirmed that he has been served with evidence collected by the US authorities to support their request for his extradition.

Last week the hearing was rescheduled for today as a result of the police sick out.
