Olympian Alia Atkinson picked up gold and silver on day one of the UANA Olympic qualifier, in Florida.
In the 50 metre breaststroke Atkinson who represents the South Florida Aquatics Club took the gold in 31.69 seconds.
The win makes ten consecutive wins for Atkinson on US soil. She has not lost a race in America since May 2016.
Silver was won by Mexican national record holder Melissa Rodríguez of Britania Desert Dragons and the bronze went to Panama’s Emily Santos of Montverde Aquatic Club.
In the 50 metre butterfly Atkinson won the silver in 27.03 seconds – just off her season best of 26.97 seconds.
Gold went to Mexican Athena Kovacs in 27.01 seconds, Jenny Halden won the bronze.
Jamaica’s Emily MacDonald representing the Bolles Sharks just missed her personal best of 28.61 seconds in the 50 metre butterfly as she placed 10th in 28.65 seconds.
Another Jamaican, Sidrell Williams of Azura Florida aquatics in his first race since the summer of 2019 raced to 25.93 seconds in the men’s 50 metre butterfly.
