The Amber Group continues to expand its footprint globally, expanding their technology output in South Africa.
The Kingston-founded and based conglomerate, has hit a milestone in the African country with their Internet of Things, IoT, technology now deployed across a million devices.
IoT technology allows everyday equipment and appliances to self-report and automatically communicate with other devices over the internet or other communication networks.
This communication occurs through digital sensors and micro computer chips, to create a network of interconnected devices.
Amber say their technology, developed by their engineers, is woven into the daily operations of utilities, logistics firms, retailers and security companies across South Africa.
Practically, the technology would for example allow appliances send automatic alerts to companies or owners through its own monitoring of issues.
Amber says its IoT’s product line covers smart electricity and water metering through Amber Pulse, vehicle and asset tracking, panic button, remote security monitoring through Amber Guard and cold-chain monitoring that keeps food and medicine at safe temperatures from factory to shelf through Amber Temp and DryLink.
The group says their technology is also used in street lights automation and many other industrial automation and through devices that communicate over 0G, wireless network built specifically for small devices that need to send short messages while sipping very little battery power.
