Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs, Marlene Malahoo Forte, says amendments to the Bail Act are expected to be before Parliament by next month.

She says this is among the priorities for her newly minted ministry.

The minister was speaking during this morning’s sitting of Parliament’s Standing Finance Committee.

Minister Malahoo-Forte says the government is also focusing attention on the removal of the Queen as the head of state of Jamaica, which she says will have to go to a referendum.

She also says other constitutional matters will need to be addressed such as the charter of fundamental rights.
