Stevian Simmonds reports

August Town Social Worker and anti-violence activist, Kenneth Wilson, is laying the blame for persistent violence in the community, squarely at the feet of its residents.

He says it’s time they unite and seek to rid the community of crime.

The community has been plagued by violence for years, despite millions of dollars of state funding on social intervention measures.

Mr. Wilson says the answer to the crime problem, lies with the residents.

The Eastern St Andrew community has been under a Zone of Special Operations, ZOSO for about a year.

Despite the presence of the security forces, there continues to be violence in the community.

Mr. Wilson says four persons have been murdered between mid-last month and this past weekend.

Wilson says he supports the ZOSO in the community.

He says support from the residents, is among a host of factors influencing the violence in the community.
