Visa issues among several teams set to participate in the Austrian Summer Trophy have forced the cancellation of the tournament.
That’s according to competition organisers, PRO International Marketing, through a statement this morning.
The Austrian Summer Trophy was to run from August 20 to 27 with Jamaica set to take on World Cup bound Morocco, Ghana and World Cup host Qatar.
But in their statement the tournament organisers said the cancellation is due to the teams having their visa obstructed to Austria leaving the teams unable to attend the tournament.
Jamaica’s 27 player and 12 official contingent departed the island for the four team tournament yesterday morning.
PRO apologised to the teams for the inconvenience caused.
Jamaica’s contingent will be disappointed by the cancelation. The squad was made up of largely locally-based talent with the plan of integrating a new group of talent having failed to qualifying for the upcoming FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar starting this November.
The squad was being led by Merron Gordon and his assistant Vassell Reynolds.
