Barbados health authorities are reporting an outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) at the Geriatric Hospital.

However it has given no indication as to the number of persons infected or have died as a result.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health and Wellness said visits to the institution on the outskirts of the capital have been restricted on some wards as a result of the outbreak.

The ministry extended an apology for any inconvenience caused and is encouraging the public to continue to practice good hygiene to protect themselves and their loved ones from any possible infection.

Barbados has recorded 569 deaths and 106,000 infections since the first case was recorded in March 2020.

The authorities said 60.5 percent of the population had received at least one vaccine while 57.2 percent had been fully vaccinated against the virus.
