The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is advising citizens that the benefits under the government’s Social Pension Programme have increased, effective this month.

The benefit payment, which is disbursed bi-monthly, has been moved from $6,800 to $12,000.

The government’s Social Pension Programme was introduced in 2021 as the “Caring for our Elderly” initiative.

It provides financial support to senior citizens 75 years of age and older, who are not in receipt of a pension and are not beneficiaries of a government benefit.

As at May 2024, approximately 13,000 elderly people benefit from the programme.

Applications for the programme may be submitted on behalf of eligible persons by their caregivers.

Interested people may contact the Ministry of Labour and Social Security’s office in their parishes of residence.
