National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, says he’s concerned about the spike in murders since the beginning of the year.

Between January 1 and 24 this year, there’s been a 26-percent increase in murders, compared to the same period last year.

Up to last Saturday, police statistics show  72 people had been killed, compared to 57 over the same period in 2014.

Despite his concern, Minister Bunting says it’s still early in the year.

He says he’s confident the police will be able to implement measures to curb what he’s describing as a ‘rocky start’ to the year.
