Former National Security Minister, the People’s National Party, PNP’s, Peter Bunting, says murders have surged across the island since the declaration of States of Emergency in western Jamaica.

On April 30, St. James, Westmoreland and Hanover were placed under States of Public Emergency by Prime Minister Holness.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared another State of Public Emergency in the St Andrew South Police Division, yesterday.

But Mr. Bunting, who’s also Member of Parliament for Central Manchester, is criticising the move by Prime Minister Holness.

He says the murder problem that’s plaguing the country has gotten worse since the enhanced security measures have been in effect.

Mr. Bunting says the accumulation of States of Emergency is an ineffective use of government resources.

He says the government should be more targeted in their operations.
