Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Senator Peter Bunting says the States of Public Emergency, SOE, have lost their effectiveness.

Senator Bunting is arguing that the enhanced security measure has been over used in the fight against crime.

The SOE’s are currently in place in seven police divisions across the country. They’re set to expire in days if not affirmed by both Houses of Parliament.

However, at least one Opposition Senator is required to pass the measure. Senator Bunting says the majority of his membership are not in favour of such an extension.

While speaking on Nationwide This Morning, Senator Bunting suggested other methods that can be used to fight crime in Jamaica.
