Cabinet has approved a review of the Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS, all-island license.
The announcement was made this morning by head of the government’s Electricity Sector Enterprise Team, Dr. Vin Lawrence, during a media briefing at Jamaica House.
Dr. Lawrence says Cabinet has also given the go-ahead for the JPS to begin building a gas terminal at Old Harbour.
JPS has consistently lamented conditions stated in the all-island license under which it’s currently operating.
According to the ESET Chairman, Cabinet has mandated that the JPS license be reviewed.
Dr. Lawrence gave more details on Monday’s meeting between the Cabinet and ESET.
Meantime .. the ESET Chairman says the committee is pressing ahead as it seeks to achieve a significant reduction in the cost of electricity by 2017.
