Caricom heads of government have agreed to establish a committee to examine whether marijuana should be legalised in the Caribbean region.
The agreement was reached at the 26th heads of government meeting which ended in the Bahamas last week.
Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart says regional leaders are keen to make rash, uninformed decisions.
Mr. Stuart says the leaders want to make decisions based on solid, scientific evidence.
He says governments want to evaluate the issue of the legalization of marijuana with more objectivity.
Mr. Stuart says its in the region’s best interest to be proactive in shaping its policy on the issue.
