The South East Regional Health Authority, SERHA, is urging the public to exercise extreme caution when buying eggs.
This, as it has received reports, that members of the public are scavenging eggs that were discarded at the Riverton City Dump and selling them to unsuspecting members of the public.
SERHA says the eggs were improperly discarded and that they’ve sent a team to locate and destroy them.
SERHA says the consumption of unsafe eggs can result in food borne illnesses including Salmonellosis.
Symptoms include diarrhoea, fever and abdominal cramps.
Symptoms usually develop 12 to 72 hours after infection and usually lasts four to seven days.
