There is a call this morning for the International Seabed Authority, ISA, which is currently meeting in Jamaica, to delay the granting of licences for deep sea mining.

The call is coming from the Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Environment Trust, JET, Dr. Theresa Rodriques.

She says JET and other groups from the around the world, have been calling for this moratorium until more is known about the impact of deep sea mining on the environment.

Dr Rodriques is contending that Jamaica had sponsored a deep sea mining operation.

She says the state could be held liable if anything goes wrong.
