The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, has announced plans to impose a cess on imported coffee in a bid to support development in the local industry.
Agriculture Minister, Derrick Kellier made the disclosure yesterday, during a meeting with farmers in St. Thomas.
Earlier this year Minister Kellier had announced a cess on imported refined sugar.
That plan was attacked by members of the manufacturing sector, who accused the government of engaging in a ‘revenue grab’.
Minister Kellier is warning the farmers to be wary of doomsday merchants.
