National security minister, Dr. Horace Chang, is defending the actions of members of the police force who engage criminals in shooting incidents.

Dr. Chang was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Frome Police Station in Westmoreland.

He says the country’s history of extra judicial killings has changed as the police are trained to operate professionally.

However, the minister says if a suspect is injured during a confrontation with the police , he will get no help from the government.

Dr. Chang says members of the force must be trained to not miss their targets when confronted.

He says gunmen must suffer the consequences of their actions.

However, he says criminals have the right to a fair trial when apprehended.
