The Clarendon Municipal Corporation is to submit a preliminary estimate of the damage to the parish as a result of continuous rain on the weekend to the Ministry of Local Government today.
Officials of the Corporation have been assessing the damage to infrastructure and property due to extensive flooding across the parish.
And, the Corporation has activated its Welfare Committee to address the needs of people affected by the flooding.
That’s according to the Chairman of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation and Mayor of May Pen, Winston Maragh.
An estimated 5,000 people have been affected by heavy rains over the weekend.
Mr. Maragh says there was up to 4-feet of mud in the houses affected.
He says a number of persons who were trapped in their homes were rescued by divers who braved the muddy water.
Meanwhile, the Mayor says the drains in the parish were recently cleaned.
