Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke, has hit back at claims from the Opposition, that his assertion of ‘no new taxes’ over the past six budget cycles are disingenuous at best.
This as he made the closing presentation in the budget debate for the 2023-24 fiscal year in the House of Representatives.
According to Dr. Clarke, in the 22 years the PNP last spent in government, it has been able to make the ‘no new taxes’ claim on only five occasions.
The Finance Minister then shared with his colleagues reams of paper containing what he says are the various taxes levied on the Jamaican people by PNP administrations over a 17 year period.
