Outgoing member of parliament, MP, for North West St. Andrew, Dr. Nigel Clarke, has thrown his support behind Duane Smith as his replacement as the Jamaica Labour Party’s standard-bearer in the constituency.
Smith is the councillor for the Chancery Hall Division.
He is son of the former MP for the constituency, Derrick Smith, who resigned from the post at the start of 2018.
He faced off with Clarke in an internal race. In the end, the JLP’s powerful standing committee selected Dr. Clarke. The decision did cause some stir in the constituency. But things were eventually ironed out.
In his farewell address to constituents Monday night, Dr. Clarke urged them to offer Smith the same level of support they extended to him.
Dr. Clarke say he expects Smith to continue the JLP’s winning ways in North West St. Andrew.
