Commissioner of Police, George Quallo says murders were trending down during the last two months of 2017.
This compared with the murder statistics for November and December in 2016.
In November 2016, the country recorded 153 murders. While, last November the country recorded 146 murders. This represents an almost 5-percent decrease.
In December 2016, there were 136 murders. In December last year, there were 121 murders. This represents a 12-percent decrease. Overall murders last year stood at 1,616.
Meanwhile, the force was again brought under heavy criticism recently with regard to its inability to arrest persons in major drug and gun finds.
In the most recent case, while the police were commended for preventing over a hundred guns from entering the country from Florida in November, they were scrutinized for their inability to arrest anyone.
The Police Commissioner who was speaking during his first interview for the year this morning, is assuring the nation that they’re working to improve the investigative abilities of the force.
With only three days into the new year, the Police Commissioner says they’ve nabbed three persons linked to a major drug bust.
The JCF’s Corporate Communication’s Unit says the three men are Haitians.
