President of the Medical Association of Jamaica, MAJ, Dr. Myrton Smith says he’s concerned that the Cornwall Regional Hospital has not been able to identify the source or nature of a chemical leak since last week.
The noxious fumes have sent a number of interns and staff to the hospital’s emergency room. Workers had symptoms ranging from hives on their skin, redness of the face, watery eyes and chest pain.
The leak also forced the hospital to shut down its blood bank and hematology department. But Dr. Smith says he’s concerned the hospital is still trying to ascertain the source of the leak.
