The Jamaica Constabulary Force is expressing condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Senior Superintendent of Police, SSP, Dermont Lawrence.

SSP Lawrence died on the weekend in what’s suspected to be a suicide. He was the Senior Officer in charge of administration at the Police Area One Headquarters.

SSP Lawrence had also served as head of the Hanover Police Division before being assigned to St James.

In a statement, the Constabulary’s High Command says it’s mourning the loss of SSP Lawrence, whose work ethic and discipline, it says, were a blueprint of excellence in policing.

The Constabulary’s High Command says it’s mindful of what it calls the intense stressors of the job and the impact those can have on its members’ personal lives and performance.

The JCF is imploring its members to use the mechanisms in the organisation to cater to their well-being.

It says those support systems include the Volunteer Pastors Programme, the Chaplaincy Unit and the Medical Services Branch.

The High Command also says the JCF Chaplaincy Unit, the Community Safety and Security Branch and the Medical Services Branch have been directed to provide support to SSP Lawrence’s family and colleagues with whom he worked daily.
