A motion has been moved for the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, KSAMC, to make efforts to reduce the rat infestation in and around the Corporate Area.

The motion was moved on Tuesday by Councillor of the Vineyard Town Division, Andrew Swaby, and seconded by Councillor for the Trench Town Division, Neville Wright.

Councillor Swaby says the Mandela Park in St. Andrew also has a problem with rat infestation.

Videos on social media recently showed swarms of rats running through the park at night.

He says random checks of businesses are needed to establish proper arrangements for the disposal of the waste generated.

Councillor Swaby added that a quarterly meeting is also needed with the relevant stakeholders who can assist in reducing the infestation problems.
