The country’s Covid-19 positivity rate continues to climb, amid increased spread caused by the fifth wave of the virus.

In the Health and Wellness Ministry’s latest update, a positivity rate of 34 per cent was recorded. It follows 433 new positive cases being reported in the last 24 hours.

On Friday, the country had 393 new cases, making it the second highest number of single day cases recorded since the declaration of the fifth wave. The new cases come from the testing of 4,336 samples.

Majority of the new cases are from Kingston and St Andrew with 97 confirmed while St Catherine follows with 84. Five more deaths have also been recorded. 

More than 3,000 Jamaicans have died from Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. There were 118 recoveries in the update.

Ninety-five people are hospitalised with Covid-19. Thirteen are moderately ill and three are considered critical. Seventy-nine per cent of those hospitalised are unvaccinated.
