Jamaica’s Covid-19 positivity rate has gone below the 20 percent mark for the first time in several weeks.

In the Health and Wellness Ministry’s latest update, the positivity rate stands at 19.7 per cent. Six hundred and 96 samples were tested.

Of that number, 144 confirmed cases were recorded. They bring the total number of positive cases in the country to 83,486.

In the update issued on August 5, the authorities reported an 18 per cent positivity rate for the previous 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a single Covid-19 fatality was recorded in the update. The island’s Covid-19 death toll now stands at 1,860. The deceased is a 76-year-old man from St. Catherine.

The number of active cases stands at 28,363. There were 145 recoveries in the update. They brings the number of recoveries to 52,676.

The number of hospitalisations are now at 5 hundred and 94. In addition, 141 are moderately ill, 94 are severely ill and 34 are in critical condition.
