Stevian Simmonds reports

The Health and Wellness Ministry’s Chief Epidemiologist, Dr. Karen Webster Kerr, says in most parishes more than 30% of communities have been affected by the spread of COVID-19.

She was addressing the Health and Wellness Ministry’s weekly Covid Conversations media briefing last evening.

Dr Webster Kerr says in terms of the spread, Kingston and St Catherine have both exceeded 60-percent.

She says while the rate of hospitalization has significantly declined, it’s not yet low enough.

Dr Webster Kerr says the seven day positivity rate is at 11-percent.

The positivity rate represents the number of positive tests as a percentage of the number of tests done.

A positivity rate of five percent is low and ideal, while one over ten is considered high.

Dr Webster Kerr says Jamaica now has a manageable reproductive rate of the virus.

In the meantime, Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, says he’s concerned about the number of COVID related deaths reported.

He explained what the rate of deaths suggests.
