A 48-hour curfew has been imposed in the Waterford community of Portmore in St. Catherine.
The curfew began at 6 p.m., on Monday, May 29, and will remain in effect until 6 p.m., on Wednesday, May 31.
The curfew follows a double murder in the area on Sunday.
One of the deceased was reportedly celebrating his birthday. The other is an elderly woman.
Commanding Officer for the St. Catherine South Police Division, Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, says while Waterford has been relatively quiet, it does have a history of gang violence.
He had told Nationwide News on Monday that his team would be making an assessment and deciding on strategies to deal with the current situation.
During the hours of the curfew, all persons within its boundaries are required to remain within their premises unless otherwise authorized in writing by the ground commander.
