JLP caretaker for the Trinityville division, Dean Jones, says he was acting in self defence after appearing to pull a gun during a fight on Monday.

Mr. Jones, through his attorney, Alexander Shaw, issued a statement.

According to the statement, on February 5, while in the course of conducting his lawful business, Mr. Jones was physically attacked by persons unknown to him.

The statement says Jones sustained serious injuries and had an imminent fear for his life.

Mr. Shaw says his client, being aware of the mounting threat, took defensive action to de-escalate the situation.

Mr. Shaw says his client then reported the matter to the St Thomas Police who are currently carrying out an investigation.

According to Mr Shaw, the encounter was very traumatic for Mr. Jones.

He says against that background Mr. Jones is urging the public to respect his privacy in this difficult time and to resist any attempt to politicise the matter.
