One hundred and twenty six workers at Digicel’s call centre operation in Trinidad and Tobago were sent an email on Monday, informing them they’d been laid off.
The email said the decision was made in order to allow the company to consolidate operations at its regional centre in Jamaica.
Digicel says it has engaged several third-party call centre operators and is in discussions with them to absorb the affected employees into their operations in the coming weeks.
Digicel’s Chief Executive Officer, Abraham Smith, says while the decision was not made lightly, it will result in cost savings and greater efficiency.
