Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, Paula Llewelyn, is describing as disingenuous, some arguments presented by the Opposition in opposing the legislation which gives a limited right of appeal to the prosecution.

Deputy Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate, Donna Scott Motley says the legislation could undermine the judiciary.

But the DPP says it appears the Opposition did not benefit from sufficient research on the matter.

She says the defense attorneys opposing the legislation are as she puts it trapped in time, decades ago when there was a lot of inequities to the accused.

She says most of those inequities have been addressed by the evolution of law which started with the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

She says the concerns about whether the legislation will facilitate double jeopardy, have long been addressed.
