Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate, DNCD, in the Dominican Republic have seized over 1,000 packets of marijuana from a shipping container that arrived from Jamaica.

In a statement on Sunday, DNCD said it received information about contraband hidden in a container in Santo Domingo.

Anti-narcotics and military officers and canine units inspected dozens of containers that were in transit, when they detected inconsistencies inside one of the containers, which arrived from Kingston, Jamaica.

The container was opened and law enforcement found 49 cardboard boxes containing a total of 1,061 packages of marijuana.

DNCD said the drugs were hidden among preserves and condiments destined for London.
